Nicolo

Nicolo is an eastern coastal city of the Cadoccian Peninsula. It is the second most important economic centre of Cadoccia after Vesuvio.

Nicolo is named for the Ecclesiarch saint, St. Nikolaos, the patron saint of sailors, merchants, archers, thieves, and children. He was also known as Nikolaos the Wonderworker (in Greek: thaumaturgos). The city was named after the venerated saint, as his holy relics are located there. It is said that the relics of Saint Nikolaos each year exude a clear watery liquid which smells like rose water, called ‘manna’, which is believed by the faithful to possess miraculous powers. It is rumoured that the monks who tend to the relics use this ‘manna’ for mysterious purposes.
